This is electric, Khamzat Chimaev locked horns with what we can call his toughest opponent ever since he made his way to UFC. Yes, the two squared off Saturday. April 9, 2022, at UFC 273 from inside Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Though most fans expected a quick finish at the hands of Khamzat Chimaev, the bout actually went all three rounds, exceeding expectations as one of the most entertaining fights of the year. This was people’s main event in UFC 273 and what a fight it turned out to be. Both men gave it all in the Octagon and we can take nothing away from Gilbert Burns, the man put on a great show.
There is no doubt that Khamzat Chimaev was tested in a bloody slugfest with Gilbert Burns in the “people’s main event” of UFC 273. However, after three brutal rounds, he came out victorious, still remaining undefeated in his UFC career. The atmosphere when these two collided was just electric. The crowd cheered both fighters on as momentum swung between the welterweight warriors, but they largely booed unanimous scorecards for Chimaev, who earned three 29-28 scores and improves to 11-0 as a pro. On the other hand, the UFC fighters kept asking for 2 more rounds between these two. Everyone was absolutely pumped up. Burns/Chimaev” yeah bro, your sentiments are shared by millions watching this fight around the world. Michael Bisping also cheered for the people’s main event, Tweeting, “Amazing Fight”.
The people were so into the fight that they did not want it to end and on top of that, they were not too thrilled about the split decision. We saw some fighters demanding two more rounds. Henry Cejudo of UFC took to Twitter and wrote, “WE WANT 2 MORE ROUNDS! GIVE US WHAT WE WANT! What a fight!” yeah, you and me both, brother. What a fight, indeed. The fight went on for 3 full rounds and at the end, some people even thought that it is going to be a draw, or some people wished it was a draw. But yeah, we really do not blame Belal Muhammad for tweeting that because Gilbert Burns put up a hell of a fight, never making it easy for Khamzat Chimaev.
